Valentine’s Date Ideas That Aren’t Dinner
Dinner is always a safe Valentine’s Day date, but if you want something a little more unique or memorable, try one of these.
Trail walk + treat break
Hit the trails at your local national park and build in a planned “treat stop” along the way (cookies, fruit, a pastry, or a fun drink) and take a few minutes to sit, snack, and enjoy the view before heading back.
Sunset picnic
Keep it simple: grab snacks, a couple of fun drinks, and park yourselves somewhere with a view for golden hour. Bonus points for bringing a tiny speaker and making a two-person playlist.
Do a photoshoot
Pick a location and take turns being each other’s photographer. In the Phoenix area, people love doing a quick stop at the LOVE statue in Old Town Scottsdale for an easy “Valentine’s photo moment.”
Thrift store treasure hunt
Set a $15–$25 limit and give yourselves a fun challenge: each of you has to pick out a full outfit for your partner. Then find a spot to change and go grab dessert or coffee in your new looks, commit to wearing them, even if it’s ridiculous.
Build-your-own pizza night
Skip the crowded dinner scene and turn your kitchen into a tiny Valentine’s pizzeria. Set out a few toppings, put on a playlist, and each build your own pie, extra points for heart-shaped dough or a “signature pizza” named after each other.
Get crafty
Paint tiny canvases, make a vision board, build LEGO flowers, anything hands-on where the goal is fun, not perfection. And at the end, you’ll have a little keepsake you made together.
Bookstore + “pick a book for me”
Each person picks a book (or movie) they think the other would actually like. Write a little note inside the cover and swap.
Go volunteer
Do something kind together, like volunteering at an animal shelter walk, park cleanup, or a food bank shift. It’s meaningful, different, and benefits your community.
Create a tiny time capsule
Write a note to your future selves, print a photo, add a receipt or small keepsake, and seal it in an envelope to open next Valentine’s Day (or on your next anniversary).
