Oro Valley Real Estate - Making the Perfect Cup of Coffee
It's easy to support local coffee shops with the "joe-to-go", but now can also be an excellent time to sharpen your home brewing skills. Many of Tucson's favorite independent coffee shops, such as Presta, Exo Roast, Ren Coffeehouse, and Cartel, sell beans roasted and ready for you to brew at home. Cartel is also available in the Phoenix area along with Giant Coffee, Peixoto, and Lola Coffee Bar. In Southern Arizona, check out Mountain View Cafe and Bakery in Green Valley or Brews Brothers Coffee in Sierra Vista. Or, pick up your favorite whole bean variety at your local grocery store. However, once you bring your whole beans home, what is the next step? Here are three of our favorite brew methods to try out.
Whipped Coffee. It's all the craze right now, and it's simple to make! To make this delicious drink add two tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of instant coffee, and two tablespoons of hot water to a bowl. Vigorously whisk all three ingredients by hand until it forms a mousse-like consistency. Usually, this takes 1 to 2 minutes. Once whipped, pour the foam over-top a glass of milk and ice to create a decedent drink, similar to iced coffee.
Pour over. Invented in 1941, the pour-over method produces a flavor similar to that of a drip machine. To get the perfect cup, grind your beans at a medium-coarse grind. Use 50 grams of coffee and 700 grams of water to get started. You can adjust this over time to fit your desired level of strength. Next, place your filter on your specialized glass and fully saturate your filter with hot water, discarding this water. Then, pour your coffee grounds into the filter and slowly pour water over the bed of grounds, starting at the center in a circular pattern. Total pour time should take between 4-5 minutes to use all 700 grams of water. Once all the water has been used, pour yourself a cup!
Cold Brew. When temperatures are in the triple digits, cold brew may be the only method that makes sense to you! To make cold brew in a bottle, simply place 55 grams of coffee, ground to a medium-fine grind in a filter. Fill a 25oz bottle with water and give it a quick stir or shake. Let the coffee steep for 8 to 12 hours in the fridge before removing the filter from the bottle. Finally, pour the coffee over ice and enjoy on a warm Arizona day!
